Wong Kei
About This Spot
Stepping into Wong Kei, nestled right in the heart of London’s Chinatown, feels like slipping into a lively, no-nonsense corner of Hong Kong. The pace here is brisk yet welcoming, with a room full of familiar chatter and the clatter of well-worn utensils against simple, plastic plates. It’s a place where the focus is on hearty, straightforward food and the effortless rhythm of a busy kitchen buzzing to keep pace with its steady flow of guests.
The atmosphere carries an honest, unpretentious warmth — it’s not polished or prim, but it has a genuine charm in the way the staff move quickly through the dining room, attentive without fuss. There’s an old-school energy here, one that doesn’t waste time with small talk but instead lets the food speak volumes. The complimentary jasmine tea served at your table is a quiet, comforting touch amid the bustling space, hinting at the thoughtful traditions behind the experience.
What makes Wong Kei stand out is its familiar embrace of classic Chinese comfort dishes delivered with satisfying consistency. Imagine sinking a tender slice of roast duck into soup or savoring the aromatic hint of XO sauce on tender French beans — here, your meal unfolds casually but with clear respect for flavor and texture. The menu invites sharing and discovery, perfect for gathering with friends or family, each dish evoking textures and tastes that speak to simple pleasures perfected over decades.
This is not a place for formality or frills. Instead, Wong Kei offers a spirited, genuine glimpse into Chinatown’s culinary scene — a spot where quick service, robust flavors, and an unvarnished dining room set the stage for moments of relaxed satisfaction. It’s a lived-in, familiar corner of the city where food and human rhythm come together with a plainspoken, enduring appeal.

I’ve been here multiple times and I have to say that I’ve always enjoyed coming back here each time. The food is really good, and meats are really tender and enjoyable. There is also a wide variety of choices for people who choose from which is enjoyable with a larger group of people. They also offer jasmine tea for free when sat down at the table, which is quite nice as well. Staff are quite nice as well, I can’t say I’ve had a bad experience with any person who has worked there. Tables and bathrooms are clean as well.

Food: It's good Hong Kong styled food with a wide menu range which was something that I was happy with. There is a lot of different dishes that they can make and having survived for so long, you can see why. Service: It's very typical Asian restaurant Asian service. Quick and to the point which I find nothing wrong with and when asking for things, they do give it to us so it's not an issue. Especially as it is an 'eat and get out' type of restaurant. Atmosphere: a bit quiet but for a dine and leave restaurant it's fine.

We dined here twice in just a span of one week that’s how much we loved the food! It’s your typical NO-FRILLS but GOOD restaurant Service is quick and fast. I looove everything I ordered. This is my now go-to restaurant in Chinatown For visiting guests: they only accept cash! Have it ready

Reasonable price for quality food. Roast duck noodle is our favourite. It's a shame there's no vegetable leaves in the soup anymore, you get a decent amount of meat only.

Went back here after more than 30 years. Used to be famous for rude, agressive staff making you queue when there were free tables and shouting at customers. Food was always good. Service normal now, food still good. Says cash only but will take card, if asked.
